Using the Tascam 424 as Your Amp

The 424 is the amp. In the indie guitar rigs that popularized this sound—from mk.gee to countless bedroom pop producers—the Tascam 424 sits early in the chain, before chorus, delay, and reverb. It's not a guitar amp at all. Guitar runs straight into the 424's preamp, pushed hard for that elastic, compressed saturation, then effects come after.

The signal chain: Guitar → Tascam 424 preamp → Chorus → Delay → Reverb → output. The 424 shapes the core tone; effects come after.

Two ways to use 4TRK: Place it first in your chain to use it as the preamp (replacing your amp sim). Or place it last for lo-fi glue and tape wobble over everything. Both are valid—they just achieve different sounds.
