How to Install Roomtone Amp Sim

Written instructions by DAW

1Unzip Downloaded File

  1. Open your Downloads folder
  2. Double-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.zip to extract
  3. You'll see: Roomtone_Amp_Sim.vst3 and Roomtone_Amp_Sim.component

2Copy VST3 Plugin

  1. Right-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.vst3 → Copy
  2. Open Finder → Go to:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/
  1. Right-click empty space → Paste

3Copy AU Component (Logic Pro Only)

Only needed if you use Logic Pro. VST3 alone is enough for Ableton, Reaper, Studio One, etc.

  1. Right-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.component → Copy
  2. Open Finder → Go to:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/
  1. Right-click empty space → Paste

4No Action Needed - Already Verified!

Roomtone Amp Sim is signed and notarized by Apple.
Skip this step! No security warnings or manual approval needed.

What this means: The plugin is already approved by Apple, so macOS won't block it. You can go straight to restarting your DAW.

Prefer automatic installation? Use the Installer (.dmg) download option to skip manual copying entirely.

5Restart Logic Pro

  1. Completely quit Logic Pro (Command+Q)
  2. Wait 5 seconds
  3. Reopen Logic Pro
✓ Logic Pro will scan and validate the plugin automatically

6Insert Plugin in a Track

IMPORTANT: Roomtone Amp Sim is an Audio Effect, NOT an Instrument. Look for it in Audio FX → Audio Units → Northern Valley Audio, not in the Instruments section!
  1. Create an audio track (not a software instrument track) or select one with guitar
  2. Look at the channel strip on the right side of Logic
  3. Click on one of the empty Audio Effects slots (the area below the faders)
  4. Navigate to: Audio FX → Audio Units → Northern Valley Audio → Roomtone Amp Sim
  5. Or type "Roomtone" in the search box
  6. Click Roomtone Amp Sim to insert it
  7. Play guitar and start tweaking the knobs!
✓ You should see the Roomtone interface appear on your track
Still not showing? Go to Logic Pro → Preferences → Plug-Ins → Audio Units and click Validate AU Plug-Ins... Wait for validation to complete, then restart Logic.

1Unzip Downloaded File

  1. Open your Downloads folder
  2. Double-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.zip
  3. Extract the VST3 file

2Copy VST3 Plugin

  1. Right-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.vst3 → Copy
  2. Open Finder → Go to:
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/
  1. Right-click empty space → Paste

3Rescan Plugins

Ableton Live:

  1. Open Ableton Live
  2. Go to Ableton Live → Preferences (Command+,)
  3. Click Plug-Ins in the left menu
  4. Click the Rescan button
  5. Wait for the scan to complete

Other DAWs (Reaper, Studio One, etc.):

  1. Open your DAW
  2. Find the plugin rescan option in Preferences
  3. Click Rescan and wait for completion
✓ Roomtone Amp Sim should now appear in your effects

4Insert on a Track

  1. Create an audio track or select one with guitar
  2. Look for the effects/plugins section
  3. Click "Add Device" or "Insert Plugin"
  4. Search for "Roomtone"
  5. Click to add the plugin

1Unzip Downloaded File

  1. Open your Downloads folder
  2. Right-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.zip → Extract All
  3. You'll see Roomtone_Amp_Sim.vst3

2Copy to FL Studio Folder

  1. Right-click Roomtone_Amp_Sim.vst3 → Copy
  2. Navigate to your FL Studio VST3 folder:
C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 21\Plugins\VST3
Note: Your version might be FL Studio 20, 22, or 23. The path is the same, just adjust the version number.
  1. Right-click empty space → Paste

3Refresh FL Studio

  1. Open FL Studio
  2. Go to Options → Plugins → Manage Plugins
  3. Click the ⟲ Refresh button
  4. Search for "Roomtone" in the list
✓ You should see "Roomtone Amp Sim" appear

4Insert on a Track

  1. Create a new audio track
  2. Right-click on the Mixer Insert slot
  3. Search for "Roomtone"
  4. Click to insert

1Extract the Downloaded File

Unzip Roomtone_Amp_Sim.zip to access the plugin files.

2Choose Your Plugin Format

For Mac:

  • VST3: Reaper, Bitwig Studio, others that support VST3
  • AU (Component): Final Cut Pro, some older DAWs

For Windows:

  • VST3: Reaper, Bitwig Studio, Studio One, Cubase, Nuendo

3Copy to Plugin Folder

Mac - VST3 path:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/

Windows - VST3 path:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
  1. Copy the appropriate plugin file to the correct folder for your system

4Rescan Plugins

  1. Open your DAW
  2. Find the plugin/VST rescanning option (usually in Preferences or Settings)
  3. Click Rescan or Refresh
  4. Wait for the scan to complete
  5. Insert Roomtone Amp Sim as an effect on an audio track
